Why do quotes for the same website vary by 10x? One guy said ₹15k, another said ₹2 lakh.
Because three different things are being sold under the same label. The ₹15k is usually a WordPress theme reskin, sometimes literally the same template that was sold to 10 other clients before you. The ₹2L is usually custom design + custom code + an agency’s overhead and salespeople baked in. The honest middle for a real 5-page site that’s actually built for you sits around ₹25k–₹50k. Ask any agency: “show me 3 of your past sites, are any two of them basically the same layout?” The answer tells you everything.
Someone quoted me ₹2 lakh for a 3-page site. Crazy, or am I missing something?
For 3 pages, that’s overpriced unless you’re also getting custom illustrations, a real photoshoot, or heavy functionality (booking, payments, custom calculators, dashboards). Ask for a line-item breakdown. If “design” alone is more than ~₹40k for 3 pages with none of that extra stuff, you’re paying for their office rent and their salesperson, not your website.
How do I know you won't take my money and disappear like the last guy?
Honestly, you don’t fully know until we’ve worked together, so we make it low-risk. Small deposit to start, then payments tied to milestones you can actually see (designs delivered, dev complete, site live). Code lives on your GitHub from day one, so even in a worst-case scenario you’re not left with nothing. If you’re still nervous, we can start with a paid 1-week design sprint so you get to judge us cheap before committing to the full build.
Will you just slap a WordPress theme on it and charge me the full custom price?
No, and you’re welcome to see the design files and the code so you can tell it’s actually built for you. For simple brochure sites we sometimes recommend WordPress + a clean theme because it’s genuinely the smarter choice, cheaper, easier for you to edit. Custom only makes sense when you actually need it. We’re not going to upsell you into something you don’t.
My old agency 'owns' my domain and won't let me move. Is that even legal?
Legal, but absolutely not okay, and unfortunately very common. When we work with you, your domain is registered in YOUR name with YOUR email, never ours. Same for hosting. We just get temporary admin access while we build, and you keep the keys forever. If you’re stuck right now with another agency holding your domain hostage, send us the domain, we’ll help you figure out how to get it back. It’s usually a Whois dispute plus a strongly-worded email.
Some guy is offering me a 'free website build'. What's the catch?
The catch is always one of these: (a) hosting fees of ₹2k–₹5k/month forever and you can’t move, (b) the site’s on their server with no logins given to you, (c) they register the domain in their name, (d) year 2 you’ll be quoted a huge “buyout” amount once you’ve built traffic. Nothing in this business is genuinely free. If the upfront cost is zero, the real cost is your control over the site.
I got an email saying I need to trademark my business or Google will take my site down. Is that legit?
100% scam. There is no “Google Search Console Department” that emails you about trademarks. Google does not require you to trademark anything to stay online. If your developer or agency is the one telling you to pay extra for this, find a new developer that day. Block the email, ignore the threat, nothing happens to your site.
Do I really need a custom site or is WordPress / Wix enough?
For a simple brochure site or blog, WordPress or Wix with a clean theme is genuinely fine, don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. You actually need custom when: you want it to load fast (most WordPress sites are slow), you have a brand look no template can match, you need a feature no plugin does well, or you’re tired of weekly plugin updates and security warnings. Otherwise, save the money.
Be honest, how long will it actually take?
Real numbers, no padding. 5-page business site: 2–3 weeks. eCommerce store with payments: 5–8 weeks. Custom web app or booking system: 2–4 months. The biggest delay 80% of the time is content, your photos, copy, product info. If you have that ready, we hit the early end. If not, we’ll help you put it together (adds 1–2 weeks but it actually gets done).
Will my site rank on Google after launch, or is that years of SEO away?
Indexed (shows up when someone searches your exact business name), within a week. Ranking for actually useful keywords like “dentist in Kochi” or “best café in Calicut”, 2–6 months of decent content, real backlinks, and patience. Anyone selling you “page 1 in 30 days” for competitive terms is either lying or buying spam links that will get you penalised later. We set up the technical foundation properly (sitemap, schema, Search Console, fast load), so when ranking starts happening, basics aren’t holding you back.
Shopify charges me every month forever. Is a custom store actually cheaper long-term?
Depends on your sales volume. Rough math: Shopify Basic is ~₹2,500/month + 2% transaction fee on top of payment gateway charges. If you’re doing ₹2L/month in sales, that’s ~₹78,000/year, every year. A custom store costs ₹60k–₹1.5L once. Shopify wins if you have 1000+ SKUs and need plug-and-play with their app ecosystem. Custom wins if you do steady sales, want full design control, and want to stop paying that monthly forever-tax. We’ll do the math with you, not push you one way.
What happens after launch? Will I be charged for every small change?
First 30 days post-launch, small edits (text, images, blog posts, fixing typos) are free. We treat that as part of the project, not extra. After that, two options: (a) we hand you a simple no-code editor so you can do most edits yourself, or (b) put us on a small retainer (₹3k–₹8k/month) if you’d rather we handle it. No surprise bills for “moved a button by 5px”.
How do I know you're a real team and not just one guy with a stock-photo About page?
Fair, there’s a lot of fake “agencies” online that are actually one freelancer with AI-generated team photos. Easy ways to check us (or anyone, honestly): ask for the founders’ real LinkedIn profiles with the agency listed, do a video call before paying anything, ask to see 2–3 past projects with actual client names you can call, look up the registered company on the MCA portal. We’ll happily do all of the above before you commit a single rupee.
My budget is genuinely small. Will you take me less seriously than the ₹2L client?
No, and that question is fair to ask. Honest truth: we’d rather ship a sharp ₹20k site we’re proud of than a half-baked ₹2L project. Same code quality, same launch checklist either way. The difference is scope (fewer pages, simpler features), not effort or care. We’ll be upfront about what’s possible at your number so you don’t feel oversold later.
